Jiu-jitsu does not feel natural at first, it’s normal to feel awkward as you learn to move your body. Every CT-A and CT-B class starts with warm-up drills designed to teach proper movement, so eventually you can do them without thinking.
You will recognize warm-up movements in every technique across the curriculum; by the time you’re ready for CT-C, you will be able to focus on more complex techniques. Professor Caio is adamant that students and instructors understand why we do these movements. Having the ability and the knowledge will build a strong foundation as you continue your journey to a black belt and beyond!
If you aren’t sure why you’re doing a warmup, ask your instructor. In doing so, you will understand rather than imitate.
