Leading by Example: Growing Together on the Mats
One of the things I’ve always believed about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is that some of the most important lessons we teach our children aren’t necessarily the ones we explain to them. They’re the ones we demonstrate through our own actions. When kids see adults trying something difficult, making mistakes, working through frustration, and continuing to improve, they begin to understand that learning is something we never really outgrow.
That’s one of the reasons we’re so excited about the continued growth of our Family Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes at Otomi Martial Arts in Parker, Colorado! We want to create more opportunities for parents to experience the same challenges, accomplishments, and fun that their children experience every week. And the best part? Parents of currently enrolled children can participate in our Family Classes absolutely FREE! All you need is your own uniform and belt, and you’re welcome to step onto the mats alongside your child.
Our Family Classes are now offered Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:45 PM and Saturdays at 9:00 AM. One important reminder for our Saturday classes: parents of participating children ages 3–6 must be on the mats training alongside their child. We believe this creates a wonderful opportunity for our youngest students to build confidence while sharing something meaningful with Mom or Dad.
Speaking of setting great examples, we’re also excited to congratulate Donnie Kahn on successfully completing his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt test last Thursday! Donnie will officially receive his blue belt this Monday during his next Gi class, surrounded by his friends and teammates. We’re incredibly proud of his accomplishment and the work that brought him to this important milestone. Donnie’s achievement is another reminder that progress comes from showing up, putting in the repetitions, and trusting the process, even when things get difficult.
Whether you’re a parent considering kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Parker, CO, an adult looking for a new challenge, or a longtime student working toward your next promotion, the lesson is the same: the best way to encourage someone else to grow is to be willing to grow yourself.
So this week, let’s celebrate Donnie’s accomplishment, welcome more parents onto the mats, and continue building the kind of community where families learn, struggle, laugh, and improve together.
This Week’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Curriculum
As we continue working through the Caio Terra Association Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu curriculum, remember that every class is another opportunity to improve—not just our technique, but our patience, discipline, confidence, and ability to support one another.
Family Class Reminder: Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:45 PM, Saturdays at 9:00 AM. Parents of enrolled students train free with their child; a uniform and belt are required. Saturday participation is mandatory for parents accompanying children ages 3–6.
