This Week at Otomi: Building Skills That Last
One of the things I love most about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is that you don’t have to be the biggest, strongest, fastest, or most athletic person in the room to become good at it. You just have to be willing to learn.
That’s an especially important lesson for our kids.
When a child walks through the doors at Otomi Martial Arts here in Parker, Colorado, our goal isn’t simply to teach them how to win a match or memorize a collection of techniques. We want them to learn how to listen, solve problems, work through frustration, help their teammates, and become a little more confident every time they step onto the mat.
The same is true for our adults. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gives us a place where it’s okay not to know the answer immediately. We can try something, make a mistake, learn from it, and try again. Over time, those little lessons add up. Techniques that once seemed impossible become familiar, movements become more natural, and situations that once made us uncomfortable become problems we know how to solve.
That’s one of the reasons we’re so proud to teach the Caio Terra Association curriculum at Otomi Martial Arts. There is a purpose behind what we’re learning. Each week’s lessons connect to a larger system designed to help our students build strong fundamentals and develop a deeper understanding of Jiu-Jitsu—not just collect techniques.
So whether you’re one of our longtime students or a Parker-area parent who found this page because you’re considering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for your child, remember this: nobody starts Jiu-Jitsu already knowing Jiu-Jitsu.
We all start by taking the first step.
For our current students, here’s what we’re working on this week at Otomi Martial Arts.
And if you’re new to our academy and wondering whether Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu might be a good fit for you or your child, we’d love to have you come experience a class with us. No experience is necessary. Just come ready to learn.
