Hard Work, Big Wins, and New Beginnings | Weekly BJJ Curriculum
One of the most rewarding parts of coaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is watching our students take what they’ve learned in the academy and put it to the test. Sometimes that happens during a regular class, sometimes during belt testing, and sometimes on the competition mats against opponents they’ve never met before. This past weekend, we had a little bit of that competitive excitement as several of our Otomi Martial Arts teammates stepped onto the mats at NAGA Denver, and they certainly gave us plenty to celebrate!
First, we want to congratulate Mykhailo Musiienko on taking first place in his division, along with his son, Mischa (“Little Mischa”) Musiienko, who earned second place in his division. What an incredible experience for a father and son to share! We also want to congratulate Tanner Choi on winning his division and bringing home first place! We’re incredibly proud of all three competitors, not simply because of their results, but because of the courage, preparation, and commitment it takes to step onto the competition mats. Winning is wonderful, but the willingness to challenge yourself and continue learning is where the real growth happens.
We also want to extend a warm welcome to Elliot Huff, our newest official member of the Otomi Martial Arts family!Elliot is joining us through our 12-Week End of Year Special, and we’re excited to have him begin his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey with us. Every new student brings something special to our academy, and we’re looking forward to helping Elliot build his skills, confidence, and understanding of this incredible martial art.
As I often remind our students, success isn’t something that happens overnight. Whether you’re preparing for your first class, working toward your next belt, or stepping onto the competition mats, progress comes from consistently showing up and doing the work. At Otomi Martial Arts in Parker, Colorado, our goal is to help students of all ages develop not only strong Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals through the Caio Terra Association curriculum, but also the discipline, resilience, and confidence that can carry over into everyday life.
And speaking of progress, our next youth testing will take place this coming Saturday morning, October 31! Because of testing, we will not be holding our regularly scheduled Saturday morning classes. We encourage all eligible students to continue preparing, ask questions during the week, and come ready to demonstrate what they’ve learned. Remember, testing isn’t about perfection. It’s about recognizing the work you’ve put in and identifying the next steps in your development.
To our competitors, congratulations again! To Elliot, welcome to the family! And to everyone preparing for testing, let’s make this another great week of learning and improvement.
