Ranulfo Gonzalez
Head Instructor/Owner
Ranulfo “Gonzo” Gonzalez is a black belt under Professor Caio Terra. Gonzo is a life long martial artist having started Karate at the age of 10. In 1996 he was introduced to BJJ Classes in Parker, CO and was instantly hooked. That same year he also graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a BS in Education. His love for martial arts and teaching led accept a position in Colorado as a Karate instructor, and in 2004 he took a hiatus from consistant Jiu-Jitsu training to focus on being the best Karate instructor he could be. Whatever you do, do it well!
In 2008, he started consistant training again, and in 2010, he met professor Caio Terra. That same year he would go on to open his own school, Otomi Martial Arts. In 2012, when Professor Caio started the Caio Terra Association, Otomi martial arts was one of the founding members. Today Otomi Martial Arts | CTA Colorado is proud to be a Caio Terra Affiliate. Gonzo loves nothing more than sharing his knowledge with others and changing lives, one student at a time!

Coach Larry Choi
Larry Choi is a purple belt under Coach Gonzo with four years of training and coaching experience at Otomi Martial Arts. An active competitor, Larry’s accomplishments include earning a silver medal at the 2025 IBJJF World Masters in the purple belt division.
Larry’s martial arts journey began at age nine with Tae Kwon Do, but years later, a desire to share something meaningful with his son, Tanner, led him to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu—and he has been hooked ever since. That experience helped shape his passion for coaching and creating the same positive connection for others.
Today, Larry focuses primarily on Otomi’s kids program and competition team. He enjoys helping young athletes develop strong technique, discipline, and confidence, and finds it especially rewarding to watch students grow both as competitors and as individuals on the mat.
Coach Eric Hayes
Eric is a passionate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, active IBJJF competitor, and dedicated volunteer coach. As a senior leader in the Colorado Army National Guard with more than two decades of leadership experience, he brings the values of discipline, humility, resilience, and service to every class he teaches.
His passion for Jiu-Jitsu has taken him around the world, training at academies in several countries and learning from a variety of coaching styles and training cultures. In 2023, while deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, Eric volunteered his time to teach CTA Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to a multinational group of military personnel—an experience that reinforced his belief in the sport’s ability to build friendships and bring people together across cultures.
Whether competing or coaching, Eric is committed to helping students build confidence, improve their technique, and develop skills that extend beyond the mats. Outside the academy, he enjoys an active lifestyle with his wife and two children, who also train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
