She was beautiful, she came from a very wealthy family—and she was way out of control. When we met, I began to lay down the usual ground rules. Kasey, who towered over me, screamed, “F— you, you f——- b—–!” and threw every foul word at me she could think of. I knew she was capable of knocking me on my butt. I won’t lie—my knees were shaking a little, but I didn’t let her see how scared I was. Instead I said, in as calm of a voice as I could muster, “Great, but you still have to follow the rules.”
Our resume ends up in a pile, our performance reviews goes into a file, and like everyone else we get a raise every once in a while. We’re referred to as applicants, employees, or human resources, and we sense our individuality being somewhat buried.

Jack Welch called this feeling of anonymity “being in the pile,” and he recommended thinking as the means of escape. Most people go with the flow, doing what’s asked of them but not much more. In Welch’s estimation, the key to elevating yourself in business is to go above and beyond expectations whenever you’re asked a question or given an assignment. As he writes,

“If you understand that the question is only the beginning, you will get out of the pile fast, because 99.9 percent of all employees are in the pile because they don’t think. If you understand this principle, you will always be given more critical questions to answer. And in time, you will be the one giving out the questions to others!”

In this lesson, I’d like to offer five practical steps to help you think your way to the top.

The CheckMat rep is one of Antonio Carlos “Cara de Sapato’s” training partners, and he’s currently in Santos, where he’s going through his preparations for the biggest IBJJF tournament of the year alongside Rodrigo Cavaca. Direct from the port city in São Paulo State, Tarcísio demonstrates two plenty-effective attacks against the berimbolo.

“First I wrap up the foot with the help of my lapel. Next, I like crossing my leg over the opponent’s body and thrusting myself towards his belly. Then I just squeeze out the lock,” he teaches.

When our kids don’t act in ways we think they should, it’s natural to feel anxious and responsible: we’re only human. Children may attend with prior approval from Shihan.

The dates this year for the camp will be Friday June 22 thru Saturday June 23. Times as of yet are still not set in stone. However, one should plan on 3-5 hours on the first day and at least 8-10 hours of hard, information packed training on the second date.

The actual test date for people attending the camp will be the following weekend with the rest of the student base.

Please note, that any tester coming to the camp will have to formal test to progress… which means it is a comprehensive test. If you are unsuccessful, the time put into the camp will not be carried over.
